If you’ve been curious about heated Pilates, you’re not alone. One of the most common questions we hear is: What’s actually different about it?
At Ember Pilates, we believe heat should enhance the experience, not replace the workout itself. Pilates should already feel intentional, effective, and challenging. The infrared heat simply adds another layer to the experience depending on how you want to move and feel that day.
Some days, that extra intensity feels incredible. Other days, the warmth helps you move more freely, stretch deeper, and leave feeling restored.
So what’s the difference between heated Pilates and regular Pilates? Let’s break it down.
What Is Heated Pilates?
Heated Pilates is a Pilates class performed in a warmed studio environment. At Ember Pilates, our heated mat classes use infrared heat rather than traditional forced air heat.
Infrared heat creates a warm, immersive feeling throughout the room while supporting circulation, mobility, and recovery. Unlike workouts that rely on heat alone to create intensity, our classes are still rooted in intentional Pilates movement, strength work, control, and endurance.
In other words: you’re not just sweating because the room is hot. You’re sweating because you’re working.

Heated Pilates vs. Regular Pilates
Both heated and non heated Pilates offer incredible benefits. The right choice often depends on the type of experience you want from your workout that day.
Heated Pilates
Heated Pilates can:
- Add intensity and endurance to your workout
- Increase sweat and cardiovascular demand
- Support mobility and flexibility
- Help muscles feel more warmed up during movement
- Leave you feeling both challenged and restored
Many people love the combination of muscle fatigue, deep core work, and the added mental challenge that comes with the heat. It creates a full-body experience that feels energizing and empowering.
Regular Pilates
Non heated Pilates can:
- Build full-body strength and muscular endurance
- Allow greater focus on precision and control
- Help you dial into alignment and technique
- Deliver challenge without environmental intensity
- Support balanced, intentional movement patterns
Non heated does not mean easier. Pilates is still Pilates. A well-programmed class should feel effective whether the room is heated or not.
At Ember, we love both. Heat is an option, not a requirement.
Why We Added Infrared Heated Pilates at Ember
When creating Ember Pilates, offering infrared heated classes was important to me personally because I love having the option to add heat to my workout.
Sometimes I want the extra intensity. Other times, I want the warmth to help with stretching, mobility, and recovery. I wanted to create the first heated Pilates studio in Sarasota so others could experience that same feeling.
What makes Ember different is that the workout itself still comes first.
Some studios add heat and rely on that alone to make the class feel difficult. At Ember, the challenge comes from both the programming and the environment. The movement is intentional. The strength work is real. The heat simply enhances the experience.
You can explore all of our offerings on our Classes page, including heated mat Pilates, reformer Pilates, barre, yoga, and restorative formats.
Is Heated Pilates Good for Beginners?
Yes — beginners can absolutely take heated Pilates classes.
You do not need to be an experienced Pilates client before trying a heated class, and you do not need to push yourself to extremes. One of the biggest misconceptions about heated classes is that you have to keep up with everyone else in the room.
At Ember Pilates, we encourage clients to:
- Take breaks when needed
- Move at their own pace
- Modify when appropriate
- Stay hydrated before, during, and after class
The goal is not to survive the heat. The goal is to move well and feel good afterward.
If it’s your first time visiting Ember, our First Timers page walks through everything you need to know before class.
Who Loves Heated Pilates Most?
Heated Pilates tends to be especially popular with:
For Added Intensity
- People who enjoy a more athletic, high-energy workout experience
- Clients who love to sweat
- Those looking for an added endurance challenge
- People who enjoy the mental push of working in a heated room
For Restoration & Recovery
- Clients looking to improve mobility and flexibility
- Active adults wanting support for recovery and circulation
- Those who enjoy the calming, restorative feeling of infrared warmth
- Clients who love slower paced heated formats like restore and renew style classes
The beauty of heated Pilates is that it can support both ends of the spectrum depending on the class and how you approach it.
What to Expect at Ember Pilates

Some days you may crave the extra heat and intensity. Other days, you may want the focus and control of a non heated class.
